part 3

doctor morris entered the room along with two men in suits. nick was asked to leave and morris went with him. the first man introduced himself as detective dalton and his partner detective murphy. kate shuffled to get comfy, "firstly you have our condolences on the loss of your family miss hamilton." said dalton. "thankyou" she replied. "do you know the man who shot them?" dalton asked. "no ive never seen him before but i will know him if i see him again" she told dalton but then went quiet when she remembered she may never see again. "if you dont mind telling us exactly what happend tonight" dalton questioned. kate recalled every detail to them.

out side the room nick sat with jack and told him what had happened to kate. "that poor girl, i cant imagine going through something like that" jack told nick. "she is a really nice person, we had a good chat, i feel sympathy for her but you can see she is tough" nick told his friend.
the time passed slowly and it seemed that the detectives were in there for hours. when they finally left, nick had drunk three cups of bad coffee. the doctor walked the detectives to the lift. kate was trying to sit up better when nick came into the room again. "let me help you" he offered. he moved next to the bed and picked up the romote for the bed. putting it in her hand he felt a spark as their hands touched. he paused for only a second then he guided her fingers across the buttons telling her which one did what. once she was comfortable nick asked if there was anyone he could phone for her. "no but thankyou" she replied. kate attempted to get out of bed " hey you shouldnt be getting out of bed" he told her but she replied "well if i want to go to the bathroom i need to get out of bed. can you guide me to it please". nick took her right arm and helped her to her feet. she grimised at the pain but finally managed to hobble across the room. nick slowly took her around the bathroom telling her where everything is so she didnt bump into anything. "just shout when your ready to get back to bed." he told her then closed the door to give her privacey.

the nurse was doing her rounds when she found nick and kate still talking away. "alright you its time to go back to your room" she told nick "even super stars need to get some sleep" she added. nick hadnt told kate who he was yet but she didnt look puzzeld by this comment. "its ok the detective told me who you are" she confessed. "so you have known all this time and didnt say anything" he asked. kate just smiled the nurse ushered him out of the room and he said goodnight to kate then was gone.

nick was woken in the middle of the night by a noise in the hallway. getting up to see what it was he found the hallway empty. it all looked quiet so he decided to stretch his legs. he found himself outside kates room. trying to decide if he should go in and check on her or not he stood in limbo. the decision was made for him when he heard shouting from inside. rushing through the door he saw kate crouched on the floor under the window and standing over her was a man but nick couldnt see his face as it was too dark. "hey" nick shouted and startled the man who spun around and must have paniced because he ran towards the door knocking nick to the ground as he fled. at the end of the hall he also knocked the nurse over in his bid to escape. but escape he did.
nick got up and went straight to kate, as she sat hunched in a ball her long brown hair hiding her face. "kate are you ok" he asked the nurse switched on the light as she entered the room "whats going on" she asked. nick told her to call the police. rushing to the phone the nurse dissapeared. kate lifted her head "nick" she asked through tears. "yes its me, are you ok" he replied. nick tucked her hair away from her eyes and she almost knocked him off his feet again when she flung her arms around him ignoring the pain. at first nick just held her then he picked her up and carried her to the bed and covered her with the blankets. the nurse returned and informed them the police were on the way. she then gave kate a check over to make sure she was ok. all of the time kate never let go of nicks hand. "that was him, the man who killed my parents" she told nick. "are you sure" he asked. "yes i remeber his voice" she explained then continued "he was going to kill me". "ok it looks like your stitches have burst kate, im going to get the doctor to take a look" she said then was gone leaving nick and kate alone. nick tried to pull his hand away to get a chir to sit on but kate squeesed tighter "dont leave please" she begged. " im just getting a chair im not going anywhere" he tried to reasure her. nick sat with her untill the police arrived he wasnt sure if it was the intensity of the situation but he felt a connection to kate. instead of the police two men from the F.B.I arrived. they introduced themselves as agent hacket and anget malone. nick was once again asked to leave but kate didnt want him to go. " Ill just be outside the door i promise im not going anywhere" he said as he left the room. the agents began by asking kate to go over every detail once again. they wanted to hear the story from the begining. when she had finished, kate had a question for them. "why are the FBI involved". she wasnt sure which one answered her but the reply she got didnt make her feel any better. " the man who attacked you and your family has been wanted by us for some time. in your report you said that you can identify him again if you saw him". "thats if i get my sight back" kate told them "i can recognise his voice again" she added. "miss hamilton we want to put you into protective custody till we catch this an for your own safety" one of them said. "would you be willing to testify against him" he asked. there was no need to think about it of course she would . one of the men left the room and returned with doctor. "when can she be released from here" hacket asked doctor morris. "a few days" morris told them. then he tended to kates stitches. hacket said they would get everything organised and be back to get her but untill then they will have an officer outside her room and a few more in the building. they said good bye then left. when the doctor left the room sure enough there was an officer outside the room.

nick went back in to sit with kate. she told nick how they were going to put her into the witness protective programe. nick sat on the edge of the bed and kate leaned in to hug him. when she pulled away slightly their faces were mere inches from eachother. she could feel his warm breath on her skin. the next thing she knew nick had leaned closer and she coud feel his soft warm lips pressing against hers. wow she thought, shed never been kissed like that before. he pulle away and said "im soory" she replied "dont be im not". kate moved her hand up his arm, across his shoulder and up to his cheek. she felt for his lips with her thumb. his skin tingled with her touch. she found his lips and moved in and kissed him back.
