part 2

the doctors took kate through the double doors to the O.R. nick was taken to a private room. the doctor had to close the blinds because of all the people staring in. first the doctor took the dressing off that the paramedics had put on. after looking at the cut, he checked nicks eyes. nick was starting to shake. "did you bang your head when you ..." asked the doctor. "i think i hit the steering wheel" he replied. " how are you feeling just now" the doctor continued. "my head hurts and i feel a bit dizzy and sick" nick told him. the doc cleaned up the wound and put stitches in then put a fresh dressing on it. "ok id like to keep you in just over night as you have a slight concussion" the doctor informed nick. nick didnt put up a fight and was taken to another private room on a ward.

it was hours later and kate was now out of surgery and in recovery, she still hadnt woke up. the doctors had allowed nick and jack to sit with her. jack offered to get them a coffee and dissapeared down the hall. sitting in the silence nick held his hand to his now throbbing head. when he looked back at kate he saw her fingers move and then her head. he leant in closer as she opened her eyes. nick could hear in her voice that she was groggy "where am i" she asked. nick told her she was in hospital and he pressed the call button for the nurse. "why is it so dark" she asked him. her eyes were wide open but nick could now see that she was blind. the nurse came in and a doctor followed. nick left the room and waited in the hall. the doctor, doctor morris asked her if she rememberd what had happened. kate thought back then suddenly burst out in panic, "my parents plz you have to help them they are hurt he shot them". the pain that ricoched through her body stopped her from getting out of bed. the doctor asked her where they were. kate gave him the address and doctor morris left the room to call the police and send an ambulance.
nick had seen the doctor rush out of the room and he heard kate paniking so he stepped into the room. the nurse told him he had to leave but kate asked who was it. nick slowly answered her. " my name is nick, im the one who hit you with my car". "im so sorry" he added. kate told him not to worry about it as she ran out without looking. the doctor returned and told nick to leave then he said to kate "ive sent an ambulance and the police to your house, now lets get you seen to shall we." he tried to sound calm but she could hear the concern in his voice. first the doctor checked her eyes, they had no response to the light. then he checked her other wounds. "ok kate, it looks like when you were hit by the car you sustained a knock to the head which is causing some swelling and it is effecting your sight" he told her. "is it permanent" she asked. morris replied with "it could be but once the swelling goes down we will know more". changing the subject he told her they are putting her arm in a sling till the stitches heal in her shoulder. kate wasnt really lisning to him, she was too worried about her parents. the doc told her she was lucky. "well excuse me if i dont feel very lucky just now" she snapped back. morris and the nurse left but before he left the room he told kate that he would let her know as soon as there is any news on her family.

nick stopped the doctor on his way out " how is she" he asked. morrise replied "she could probally do with some company just now if you want to go in". jack waited outside the door and left nick to go in alone. kate heard him enter and asked who it was. he told her who is was and she ivited him to take a seat. trying to keep her mind off the bad stuff she asked him how his car was and if there was much damage. "nothing that cant be fixed" he told her not wanting to worry her. "and what about you, are you ok". she continued. " a little cut on my forehead but its not that bad".

"so what happened to you to end up in the path of my car" he asked but then wished he hadnt. " im sorry its none of my business" he instantly appologised. "its ok, you deserve to know why i ran out infront of you" she told him then after a short pause continued. " i came home to find my dad arguing with some one so i stayed in the kitchen out of the way. thats when i heard the bang, it made me jump so i looked through the door way to see my mum lying on the ground then my dad was pushed to his knees and he looked right at me as the man shot him. he slumped to the ground. i dont know if they are still alive. then i must have made a noise because the man spun round and for what seemed like forever we just stared at eachother. i saw him pull the gun up and i ran" she blurted out between tears. "just before i reached the road he shot me and then thats when i got hit by you" she finished. nick didnt know what to say. "in a way you probably saved my life " she told him. "the last thing i remember seeing were some ones eyes, ill never forget those eyes" she said out loud not really to him but just to remind herself. all nick could say was "thankyou for the nice compliment". "that was you" she replied. they sat talking for almost an hour when the doctor returned.

"mr walker can you wait outside please" morris asked. "no, can he stay pleas" kate asked. nick took her hand and stayed seated. the doctor took a deep breath and began "im afraid its bad news, when the paramedics arrived your parents were alread dead im afraid. im so sorry". kate already knew but hearing it out loud she burst into tears. "the police are on there way to speak to you" morris continued then quietly left the room. nick hugged kate and she continued to cry.

eventually kate stopped crying and didnt want to talk about it just then so she asked nick to keep her mind occupied. she asked him what he did for work. at first he was going to tell her but then decided to be vague. "im in the entertainment bussiness". he asked her what her favourite music was and he was surprised to hear his at the top of her list. he was just about to tell her who he was when there was a knock at the door.
